Are you looking for a new unique piece of art for your walls? You can make your own using plaster paste. You’ll need 5 simple items to get started.
1 x canvas (any size)
1 x plastic spreader or wide tooth comb
1 x tub of plaster/Polyfilla/Mendall
1 x large paint scraper (to spread the plaster)
1 x plastic sheet/ old sheet
Note: This project requires that you complete it in one go otherwise the plaster will harden and you won’t be able to create any designs.
Method:
– Lay plastic sheeting or an old sheet down on a flat surface (like a floor or table) for protection. Make sure it is larger than your canvas.
– Lay your canvas on top of the sheeting on a flat surface.
– Spread your plaster all over the canvas with your paint scraper – leaving no areas uncovered (you will have roughly 30 minutes to work before it starts to harden.
– Using your spreader or a wide tooth comb, drag it across the plaster to create your own shapes or design.
– Leave the canvas to dry when you are done for about 2 hours.
– Once dry, you can either leave it plain, paint your entire canvas or just paint between the spreader lines to add more flavour to your art. Markers, paint or liquid chalk from Schneider will be perfect here!
Tip: You can use multiple canvases together to create a triptych look.
